Submission Policy

 

Unsolicited writing and artwork are welcome.

 

Each submission must be sponsored by a teacher. Click here for instructions

 

Submission Process

1. Manuscripts should be typed, double-spaced, 12 point Times New Roman font and can be from five to fifty pages long. Follow MLA or APA style sheets exactly. The use of another person's ideas should be properly documented. Avoid gender or racial bias.

 

2. Please provide four copies. On an information page include the following: the title, your name as author and the name of the teacher who is sponsoring your submission.   Also include your contact information i.e. address, telephone number, and e-mail address.  We will remove this page before submitting the paper to the peer jury to allow for a blind review. The paper will be read by four jury members.

 

3. Please put the four copies and information page in a folder addressed to the following: Susan Grover, English Department, Brigham Young University--Idaho, Rexburg, ID, 83460-0820. You may leave folder in the drop slot outside the English Department main office,  Rigby Hall rm 180.

Share your learning with interested students and community members.

Build coalition with community members.

    Reference to UJE articles will be made in newsletters from the following:

  1. area schools to parents
  2. BYUI to area educators
  3. Bonneville CLC to volunteer literacy tutors
  4. Retired Senior Volunteer Program to Senior Corp members such as Foster Grandparents

 

Participate in an intellectual community.

    Students writers, peer-jury members can utilize web resources to become involved in the following ways:

  1. Undergraduate research is part of a growing national movement.
  2. Involvement in UJE provides service learning opportunities for students.
  3. Students and faculty experience the editing and publishing process.
  4. Faculty members can share research and interests with students and community members.

 

Document outstanding student work.

    The student-author can present the UJE publication and the web address as evidence on the following:

  1. resume
  2. cover letter
  3. college or professional application
  4. employment application

 

Submissions for UJE can lead to further development of written ideas.

  1. Work that is not accepted for publication undergoes a critiquing process to help the author(s) improve the work.
  2. Documented ideas and studies such as those published in UJE could serve as a vehicle for grant writing.
