Chicago Urban Studies Tour
As we arrive in Chicago, there will be a three-week experience working with Inner City, at risk youth. These are either members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or are in some way connected with the Church. The age group of these youth is from 10 to 16. There is a program for both the young men and young ladies, The BYU-Idaho participants in the program will be involved in one-on-one experiences with the youth as well as leading them in small group structured experiences.

Cost
The tour cost is $350, which pays for:
- Travel fees (bus ride to Chicago)
- Food expenses each day
- Lodging
- Limited transportation in Chicago
The fee does not include:
- Tuition for classes
- Books for courses taken (estimated $30 - $50)
- Personal expenses (i.e. snacks or souvenirs)
- Personal insurance
Payment
After being accepted, students should deposit $100 in their account at the cashiers office by 15 February 2005 (being sure to specify that the money is to go towards Chicago Inter-City Interactions). Another $125 should be deposited by 1 April 2005. The last $125 should be deposited by 10 June 2005.
Regarding Tuition
If your university track includes the 2005 summer semester, your summer tuition pays for the credits earned through the tour, as well as courses during the first block (May and June). During the tour, you must take at least three credits , but may take up to 11 credits (tuition is approximately $106 per credit.)
Insurance
Brigham Young University - Idaho has no funds to compensate for the loss, damage, or theft of luggage or personal belongings, nor can it cover hospitalization or other medical expenses due to illness or accident. It is therefore the responsibility of each participant to acquire adequate health and/or travel insurance to guard against such expenses. Otherwise the student assumes full responsibility.
Dates
Those who participate in this tour will be gone during the second
summer term of 2005. Tour classes are held from 20 July to 5 August.
The tour leaves for Chicago 24 June 2005, and returns 20 July, 2005.

Classes will be held for two weeks on the BYU-Idaho campus after we
return, beginning 25 July 2005 and ending 5 August 2005. Most of the
learning will take place in Chicago and at camp, though no classes or
reading will be required during our time there. No student will be
excused except in dire emergency (dentist or doctor checkup do not
count as emergencies.) Students will need to arrange for their own
housing in Rexburg.
Requirements
LDS Standards
All tour participants are required to live by the behavior, dress and
grooming standards of BYU-Idaho. This includes abstinence from coffee,
tea, alcohol and illegal drugs. Participants must also be willing to
follow the directions of the tour directors and cooperate as a group.
Violation of these standards or directions could result in a student
being sent home at her own cost.
Health
Students could be in sufficient health to be able to fully participate in a vigorous travel schedule. Brgham Young University - Idaho cannot be responsible for any illness that would occur during the tour. persons with heart disease, high blood pressure or other physical impairments that could hinder them from normal participation in the group should contant the tour director, Stephen Smitth, before submitting an application.
Group Meetings
Meetings for both camps will be held during the Winter Term on Thursday evenings 6-8pm. Those on the Summer/Fall track will attend meetings during the first Summer Term, at times to be announced.

Application
The space for each camp is limited to 17 students. To fill out an application, please visit the Sociology Department Office in the Clark Building, or the Communications Office in the Spori Building, and request one. The application may be returned to the same place. You must sign up for an interview when you return your application. Payment information is covered under Cost.
