Dear Mr. Carter:
First Paragraph. In this initial paragraph state why you are writing. Are you inquiring as to possible job openings or are you applying for a specific position? If applying for a specific position indicate the source from where you found out about the opening.
Second Paragraph. Indicate why you are interested in the specific position and/ or why you are interested in the particular employer. Tell a little bit about yourself and your experiences as related to teaching. You can point out specific achievements or qualifications. If you are going to enclose a resume you may wish to indicate that here.
Third Paragraph. You may request application papers and indicate your desire for, and the arrangements that you can make for, a personal interview. Phone numbers are often listed here so that employers can call if they wish. Close your letter with a statement that will encourage a response. You can indicate when you will be in their city for interviews or you can state that you will be calling on a specific date. Asking about setting a specific date for an interview is also possible. Indicate that you look forward to their response.
Sincerely,
(Name typed here)
