Licensing / Certification Requirements
You must be certified or licensed in any state in which you wish to teach. Your Idaho license qualifies you for the state of Idaho only. Although reciprocal agreements regarding certification/ licensing exist among states, you must apply to each state for which you wish to obtain a certificate or license. A manual on certification (including addresses for certification offices) in the United States is available for your use in Career Placement Services office.
After you complete your teacher education program here at BYU-IDAHO and are recommended to the state for a license, you will receive a License good for five (5) years.
Licenses are available for:
Early Childhood/Special Education
Elementary Teaching
Secondary Teaching
An endorsement is an addition to or listing on a certificate. Endorsements are required on several of the licenses (e.g. subject matter specialty field(s) for secondary teaching [usually your major and minor], and special education [mild / moderate, etc.]).
