Parties to the Interstate Agreement
Many of the states are parties to the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification Interstate Contract. This agreement allows educators who hold certificates or licenses in one of the participating states to obtain analogous certification or licensure in any of the other participating states. Applicants should note that individual states may have special conditions upon granting certification, for example demonstrated knowledge of state history. Such conditions and even whether there is reciprocity for all classes of educational personnel vary from state to state. Many of these conditions are noted in the individual state requirements found in the volume, Requirements for Certification of Teachers, Counselors, Librarians, Administrators for Elementary and Secondary Schools, 2000-2001, located in the Education Advising Center. The listing below shows which states are parties to the agreement for teacher certification and will accept the Idaho Teacher Certification. Applicants seeking reciprocal certification in another state should contact the certification office there for full information. Addresses, phone numbers, and web sites for certification offices of all states are listed in the Licensing Agencies section.
