FAQ’s

Continuing Ecclesiastical Endorsement

Q:  Why do I have to have a new endorsement when I just got one?

A:  The Board of Trustees have indicated that “[T]he continuing endorsement will help ensure that students who are active Church members are not excluded through enrollment ceilings while inactive members enjoy the blessings of attending Church schools.”

Q:  What is the electronic continuing endorsement?

A:  BYU-Idaho has developed a process whereby students may make and sign their endorsement electronically.  University Bishops and wards in Rexburg and Sugar City have access to the web site to complete the endorsement process and remove the continuing endorsement hold from the student once the student has been interviewed.

Q:  I am a married student.  What do I have to do to use the electronic continuing endorsement?

A:  If you lived in the Rexburg area, you will need the Church unit number of the ward you attended during the winter semester in order to make your commitment. If you live outside the Rexburg area then you will have to do a paper endorsement.

Q:  I am not L.D.S.  Do I need an endorsement?

A:  Yes.  You can print the necessary form from the web site and take it to your church leader who can sign the endorsement for you or have an advisor in the Student Honor office visit with you.

Q:  What if I do not have a Church in this area or my spiritual leader is not accessible?

A:  You can go to the Student Honor Office in 270 Kimball building and ask for an interview with one of the advisors.

Q:  What if I have to work on Sunday and cannot attend Church?  What do I do?

A:  There are a variety of meeting start times in most areas of the Church.  If you are unable to attend Church you will need to visit with your Bishop and work it out with him.

Q:  I will be doing an internship this summer.  Do I need an endorsement?

A:  Any credit courses or involvement where you represent the university or are participating in any university sponsored program or event will necessitate a continuing endorsement after winter semester.

Q:  I am only taking 6 credits.  Do I need a continuing endorsement?

A:  Yes.

Q:  Does my campus Bishop have to do my endorsement or can my home Bishop do it?

A:  The Board of Trustees have said that the endorsement can only be done by the Bishop of the ward the student resided in during the Winter semester.  If a student lived in the Rexburg area and attended a university ward then that Bishop must do the endorsement.

Q:  I am off-track during the winter semester.  Who can do my endorsement?

A:  You need to go to the Bishop of the ward you resided in during that time period and he can endorse you.

Q:  I forgot to get an endorsement before I left school at the end of the Winter semester and I am now at home.  What should I do?  Can my home Bishop do my endorsement?

A:  If you resided in a university ward during the winter semester your home Bishop cannot do the endorsement.  You will need to contact your university ward Bishop and make arrangements to be interviewed.  You can do the endorsement electronically and then have your university ward Bishop release the hold.

Q:  I am off-track during the Winter semester, can I use the electronic endorsement process?

A:  If you live in the immediate Rexburg area you may utilize the electronic endorsement because Bishops in that area have been given access to the web site.

Q:  What if my Bishop does not endorse me?

A:  You will not be able to register. You may appeal the Bishop’s decision to your Stake President.

Q:  If my university Bishop will not endorse me can I get my home Bishop or another Bishop to do it?

A:  No.

Q:  I decided to not return to BYU-Idaho before I left school but have now changed my mind.  What should I do?

A:  Contact your university Bishop and make arrangements with him to do your endorsement.

Q:  Does my Stake President have to do my continuing endorsement?

A:  No.

Q:  Where may I get a copy of the continuing ecclesiastical endorsement form?

A:  The form may be printed in PDF or Microsoft Word format by going to the following Web Site:  http://www.byui.edu/StudentHonor/Continuing%20Endorsement.htm

Q:  Once my Bishop has signed the form what should I do?

A:  It can be faxed to the number shown at the bottom of the form or mailed to the Student Honor Office in Kimball 270.

Q:  My Stake President mailed my endorsement form to Provo.  What do I do?

A:  We will attempt to get a copy of that endorsement from our Admissions Office.  It may take a bit longer as the form has to be scanned in before we can see it.

Q:  I only attended the second block of the winter semester.  Do I still need a continuing endorsement since I had just recently been endorsed?

A:  Yes.

Q:  I tried to access the electronic endorsement but was unable to or it did not show the ward I actually attend.  What should I do?

A:  Check to ensure that the local address you have given to the university is correct.  If it is correct and you still cannot complete the electronic endorsement, call the Student Honor Office at (208)496-1120.

Q:  My Bishop lost my form.  What do I do now?

A:  Get another form, fill it out and have your bishop to sign it.

Q:  I tried to register and was told that there was a block on my record.  What do I do?

A:  You need to determine what kind of hold is placed on your record.  Is it a financial, Academic, Honor Code or Continuing Endorsement hold?  Depending on the hold you will need to contact the office which placed the hold and clear it up before you can register.
