ENVIRNMENTAL IMPACT

Paper use is one of the most timely conservation concerns for today's office.  According to World Resources Institute, tropical forests are being depleted by 40-50 million acres per year.  A substantial percentage that supply is used for paper production.

Obviously, the paper problem is valid and can be addressed in every office. The Conservatree Paper Company offers good reasons to recycle.  One ton of paper made from 100 percent recycled waste paper:

saves 17 trees,

reduces enough electrical energy to power the average home for 6 months,

conserves 7,000 gallons of water,

eliminates 60 lbs of air pollution,

and frees up three cubic yards of landfill space.

  FACTS

Every year we save enough energy by recycling steel to supply L.A. with nearly a decade's worth of electricity.

We save enough energy by recycling one aluminum can to run a TV set for three hours.

America imports about 50% of its oil.  Saving energy by recycling means we depend less on foreign supplies.

America produces an average of more than one half of a ton of garbage per person every year, or about 3-1/2 pounds a day.  And the figure is still growing.

In a lifetime, the average American will throw away 600 times his or her adult weight in garbage.  If you add it up, this means that a 150 lb. adult will leave a legacy of 90,000 lbs. of trash for his or her children.

Recycling one ton of office paper, keeps 7,000 gallons of water out of the paper making process.  It also cuts down on bleaching, which means less dioxins in the water.

America cuts down two million trees every day, but throws away about 42 million newspapers.

  END RESULTS

Recyclying:

helps save the rain forests,

saves natural resources such as bauxite (from aluminum cans),

removes waste completely, while turning it back into useful products,

is quick,

is common sense,

and saves energy.
