Recycling Efforts
Paper-The University is currently involved in recycling newspapers and "office pack" materials. Each business office on campus has access to a small recycling container to be used for recycling purposes. Paper which meets the standard outlined in the "What Can be Recycled" information provided by the campus can be placed in these containers and is picked up by the regular janitorial service workers.
Newspaper-Collection of the old "Scroll" occurs weekly by members of the newspaper staff as the new paper is distributed. Additionally, other newspapers are recycled by campus business offices by placing them in the small recycling containers available in each office. These newspapers are collected by the regular janitorial service workers. All of these newspapers are placed in a bin for collection by the recycling company.
Batteries-The University participates in the recycling of automobile batteries. This effort is coordinated by the automotive shop on campus and generates a benefit for the University and the environment.
Oil-The University participates in the recycling of automobile oil. This effort is coordinated by the automotive shop on campus and generates a benefit for the University and the environment.
Compost-The University has an extensive program where leaves, grass clippings, and limbs are chipped and stacked and later used as a mulch mixture to cover trees and shrubs on campus.
In the near future, the University will incorporate wet garbage from food services and rotate it with the original compost. Currently the only green waste not composed at this time are small twigs and sod.
Cardboard-The recycling of cardboard is controlled by the Grounds Department on campus. The Grounds crew collects cardboard each week and delivers it to the transfer station where it is bundled and recycled for free.
