BYU-Idaho Outdoor Learning Center (Badger Creek)
 

The BYU-Idaho Outdoor Learning Center or Badger Creek Ranch is located four miles north and one and one-half miles east of Tetonia, Idaho, off Idaho state highway 33.  This location is on the north end of beautiful Teton Valley and in view of the western slopes of the Grand Tetons.  Targhee National Forest is nearby and Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are within easy driving range

The Center spreads across 200 acres of open and aspen covered hills.  Badger Creek flows through the lower sections of the property.  Facilities presently developed at the Center include a small lodge, a campground, horse corrals, canoe pond, Logistic center, 10 small sleeping cabins, a log cabin and a ropes course.

This resources is the site for outdoor programs sponsored by BYU-Idaho located at Rexburg, Idaho 45 miles away.  These programs may involve college groups, youth conferences and families.  Some programs stage all activities at the center, while others use the center as a base from which to make trips into the wilderness areas.

The Outdoor Learning Center is available to all individuals and groups willing to observe standards of conduct of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  These standards include the abstinence of tobacco and alcohol. as well as proper moral conduct.  Scheduling of the facility is done according to prescribed policies and procedures of BYU-Idaho.  Special fees are charged for use. 

This facility is an environmental sanctuary.  This is the home of many species of wildlife and the habitat of a diversity of plants.  Utilization of this resource assumes participants will practice a stewardship of the environment.

The primary purpose for the BYU-Idaho Outdoor Learning Center is to facilitate education.  Programs that stimulate growth and new values are invited and encouraged to use this resource.

The Lodge

The lodge is small with about 2500 sq. feet of floor space within three levels.  The bottom floor has a kitchen, storage room, and restrooms with showers.  The kitchen is modern with hot and cold running water, a gas range, a large gas grill, refrigeration, and cabinets.  Cooking pots and pans are provided.

The second floor is the dining hall with about 1,000 sq feet of floor space.  Tables and chairs to seat approximately 50 people are available.  A wood stove heats this room in the winter.

The loft on the top floor houses the Outdoor Learning Center  Staff during the summer months.  In the Winter, this area is available for group use.  There are twenty beds with mattresses available.

Cabins

Cabins are for sleeping only.  There are 6 beds (3 sets of bunk beds).  The cabins have electricity and electric heat.  there are outhouses nearby.
