Psychology Program Changes for Fall 2008:

FDMAT 223:  replaces Math 221
FDMAT 223: is now a prerequisite for Psych 378 Psychological Assessment. (If you have taken  Math 221, it will still serve as the prerequisite to Psych 378 as well.)

NEW CLASSES:

Psych 390R Experiencing Research in Psychology (3 credits)

Prerequisite:  Psych 302.   This class is an opportunity to apply information learned in Psych 302 (Research Methods).  All students will be required to conduct a study of their own design.  This means that each student will propose a study, collect data, analyze that data, and then write up a report.  This report should be a product that can be turned into a presentation or a publication.

This class will be mainly of interest to those psychology majors who are planning on attending graduate school with special relevance to those planning on earning a Ph.D. in clinical or experimental psychology (this may include areas such as cognitive psychology, social psychology, instructional psychology, etc.).  Many of these programs favor students with real research experience.  Naturally, any interested student may attend regardless of their career goals.

Psych 435 Health Psychology (3 credits).

This class replaces Psych 235 - Stress Management.
Topics include:  Scientific research in health psychology, how culture is related to health and stress, how stress affects the various body systems, developing healthy behaviors and attitudes throughout the lifespan, and using stress management techniques to deal with life's daily challenges.
