Writer: Don Sparhawk
Contemporary pianist Jim Brickman will perform at Brigham Young University-Idaho’s Sprit Week as part of the Center Stage Performing Arts Series on Oct. 10.
Brickman will be joined on stage by singer Anne Cochran. He will be debuting some of the new music from his latest album Beautiful World.
Brickman has been at the forefront of revolutionizing the sound of adult contemporary music with his pop-style solo piano. His career began as a college student writing commercial jingles, first for clients in his native Cleveland, then nationally. In 1994, he turned his talents to the art of the romantic popular song.
Some of his best-known compositions include “Valentine,” “The Gift,” “Love of My Life” and “Peace.” In November 2005, he held the top three spots on Billboard’s New Age chart for his albums The Disney Songbook, Grace and Greatest Hits.
Brickman has established a reputation for his collaborations with many of the entertainment industry’s most gifted musical artists: Martina McBride, Michael W. Smith, Kenny Loggins, Carly Simon, Herb Alpert, Collin Raye, Pam Tillis, Michael Bolton, Donny Osmond and Olivia Newton-John.
His career includes a 2003 Grammy nomination for his CD Peace, four number-one and 10 top-ten hits, one platinum-selling album, and four certified gold records.
Brickman will perform in the Hart Auditorium at BYU-Idaho. Tickets are $20 for the general public and $10 for BYU-Idaho students. They can be purchased at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office, by calling 496-2230, or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.
