Award-winning pianist Del Parkinson to perform concert

Pianist Del Parkinson will perform a Bicentennial Birthday Bash Saturday, Sept. 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Brigham Young University-Idaho. The Center Stage Performing Arts Series concert is free and no tickets are required.
Parkinson’s program will spotlight three composers who were born 200 years ago: Felix Mendelssohn (1809), Frederic Chopin (1810), and Franz Liszt (1811).
“The three composers represent the epitome of the romantic style of classical music,” Parkinson said. “All three were pianists and are among the finest piano composers of all time.”
Parkinson began studying piano at age five in his hometown of Blackfoot, Idaho. He received a Fulbright-Hays grant for graduate study in London, and he holds a doctor of music degree from Indiana University and a postgraduate diploma from The Juilliard School. He was coordinator of piano instruction at BYU-Idaho, where he taught for eight years. He is now professor of piano at Boise State University, where he joined the faculty in 1985. He is also on the international roster of Steinway artists.
He is the recipient of the BSU Foundation Scholar Award for creative activity, the BYU-Idaho Eliza R. Snow Award for performing and visual arts, the Idaho Commission on the Arts Career Fellowship Award, and the Idaho Governor’s Award for excellence in the arts.
The concert will be in the Barrus Concert Hall of the Eliza R. Snow Center for the Performing Arts.
