Symphony Band to Feature Music of an American Legend

 

The Brigham Young University–Idaho Symphony Band will present its fifth annual Sousa concert on Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall. The music will feature the music of John Philip Sousa with elements common to his 50 years of concert performances.

The concert will include Sousa’s famous marches and patriotic fanfare. Classical works by European composers and vocal arias will also be performed.

Returning for her fourth performance with the Symphony Band will be soprano soloist Dr. Marci MacKay, performing the aria “Song to the Moon” from Rusalka by Dvorák. In addition, Dr. Bill Holman of the Department of Music will be featured on the clarinet performing Solo De Concours by Messager.

Tickets are $3 for BYU–Idaho students and $6 for the general public. They can be purchased at the BYU–Idaho Ticket Office or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.

The BYU-Idaho Symphony Band is the premier audition band on campus. Several members of the band are not music majors but are on music scholarships. The Symphony Band tours every other year and visited the southern states for two weeks last spring.
