BYU-Idaho's University Jazz Band to Perform
They will be featuring original music from “Birth of the Cool,” a classic jazz album by Miles Davis. “The band will be playing transcriptions of the original solos as played on the album as well, including those by jazz greats, Lee Konitz and Gerry Mulligan,” said director Ryan Nielson.
Tickets can be purchased for $3 for BYU–Idaho students and $6 for non-students at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office in the Kimball building, online at www.byui.edu/tickets, by calling (208) 496-2230, or at the door the night of the event. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
The Jazz Band is a large ensemble open to majors and non-majors. A full curriculum is provided to help students learn the fundamentals of jazz. The group performs each semester. An audition is required. This ensemble enriches the musical experience of its members and consists of students from all disciplines who wish to continue their band experience while pursuing a degree program of choice.
