Relief Society General President to speak at
BYU-Idaho summer commencement exercises
More than 1,000 Brigham Young University-Idaho students will receive diplomas at summer commencement exercises to be held Friday, July 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium. Sister Julie B. Beck, general president of the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be the featured speaker.
Tickets are required to attend commencement in the Hart Auditorium. Individual college convocations will be held at 8:00 p.m. the same evening at locations across campus. Tickets are not required to attend. Information about convocation locations and other graduation events is available online at www.byui.edu/graduation.
A total of 1,044 students will receive diplomas at July commencement. Of those, 417 are males and 627 are females. The university will award 937 bachelor's degrees and 118 associate degrees. About half the graduates, 502, are married, and 480 have served as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The youngest graduate, Joshua White, 18, will receive an associate degree. The oldest graduate, Diana Wiese, 58, will receive a bachelor's degree.
Sister Beck was sustained as general president of the Relief Society in March 2007. She had previously served as first counselor in the General Young Women Presidency. She has served on the Young Women General Board, as a ward Young Women and Primary president, as a counselor in a stake Relief Society presidency and at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah. She is a graduate of Dixie College and Brigham Young University.

It is the largest private university in Idaho, with about 13,000 students enrolled for Winter Semester 2008.
