Jazz sax player Nelson Rangell to headline BYU-Idaho Latin Jazz Night

Headlining this summer's BYU-Idaho Latin Jazz Night will be Denver sax and flute player Nelson Rangell backed by the BYU-Idaho Latin Jazz Band.

The concert will be held Wednesday, June 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium at BYU-Idaho. Tickets can be purchased from the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office by calling 496-2230 or online at www.byui.edu/tickets. Cost is $8 for the general public and $4 for BYU-Idaho students.

The event features jazz flutist and saxophonist Nelson Rangell, who has released 14 CDs during his career. He has recorded mainly in the contemporary/pop and smooth jazz formats.

The music being performed is an "exciting array of Brazilian, Cuban and Afro-Cuban rhythms, including mambo, cha-cha, samba and other Latin grooves," says Ryan Nielsen, director. "The repertoire includes arrangements of jazz standards by John Coltrane and Charlie Parker, as well as more traditional sounding Latin pieces."
