Argentine band to perform concert at BYU-Idaho Saturday, June 21

A South American band originally from Argentina will perform in the Hart Auditorium at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg Saturday, June 21, as part of the Center Stage Performing Arts Series.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. concert are $12 for the general public and $5 for BYU-Idaho students. They may be purchased at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office by calling 496-2230 or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.

Los Pinguos band members came to the United States in 2001 from Buenos Aires, Argentina, with a mixture of Latin rhythms, performed with Spanish guitars, a Cuban tres, Peruvian cajón (box-drum) and harmonizing vocals.

While performing in California, they were spotted by a talent scout who urged them to audition for a new television show, "The Next Big Star," hosted and produced by Ed McMahon of "Star Search" fame. In spite competition from more seasoned groups, and being the only Latin band to perform, Los Pinguos won the audience vote and claimed the grand prize.

Today the sound of Los Pinguos has claimed fans worldwide from their hometown of Buenos Aires to the streets of Los Angeles.
