Japanese drummers to perform concert at BYU-Idaho
Japanese taiko drummers known as Shidara will perform at the Hart Auditorium at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg Saturday, April 26, as part of the Center Stage Performing Arts Series.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. concert are $12 for the general public and $5 for BYU-Idaho students. They may be purchased at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office by calling 496-2230 or online at www.byui.edu/tickets.
Shidara comes from deep within the mountains of Japan. Blending skill, energy and speed, their performances carry a spiritual purpose rooted in ancient times. Defying time and place, their music captures earthy tones of long ago, and thunders with new images of Japanese mountain life.
Sweeping the Tokyo Taiko Championships in 2002, Shidara is currently on a six-week western U.S. tour that is taking them to California, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Alaska and Idaho.
Members live and train at their mountain facility in strictest traditional discipline. Deeply entwined in the life of their village, Shidara has committed to preserving the ancient dance festivals in their region.
