BYU-Idaho announces summer Center Stage lineup

 

The Center Stage Performing Arts Series at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg has announced its spring and summer lineup of shows.

 

The season will open with The Spencers Theatre of Illusion on Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium.

 

Shidara, a Japanese drum show, will be presented Saturday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium. Shidara is recognized as one of the foremost Japanese drum companies in the world and swept the Tokyo International Wadaiko Championships in 2002.

 

The Idaho Falls Symphony will perform Friday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall. The symphony will be under the direction of guest conductor Kirk Gustafson of the Grand Junction (Colorado) Symphony Orchestra and guest artists are Allen Vizzutti of Seattle on trumpet and Hovia Edwards of Fort Hall on Native American flute.

 

Jason Hewlett, a music impressionist, will perform tributes to such stars as Jim Carrey, Michael Jackson, Louie Armstrong, Nat King Cole, The Temptations, Cat Stevens, Smokey Robinson, and Alvin and the Chipmunks. He will perform Friday, May 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium.

 

Andrew Unsworth, the new Salt Lake Tabernacle organist will perform on the Ruffatti organ Tuesday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall.

 

1964-The Tribute will present an outdoor concert in the BYU-Idaho Stadium Saturday, May 31, at 8 p.m. The popular group will perform early Beatles music.

Los Pinguos will perform Latin contemporary music from Argentina Saturday, June 21, 7:30 p.m., in the Hart Auditorium.

 

Brass in Blue, a U.S. Air Force brass band stationed as Offutt Air Force Base near Omaha, Neb., will perform a free patriotic concert Wednesday, July 2, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium.

 

Jon Schmidt, a contemporary pianist, will perform Saturday, July 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium.

Folk singer Cherie Call will perform an Education Week concert Thursday, July 31, at 7:30 p.m., in the Kirkham Auditorium.
