BYU-Idaho Collegiate Singers to perform with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir

 

The Brigham Young University-Idaho Collegiate Singers will perform with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on Sunday, March 16 at the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City. 

 

"We are so excited to perform with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir," said Randall Kempton, director of the BYU-Idaho Collegiate Singers. "It is a great honor to be invited."

 

The Collegiate Singers will join the Tabernacle Choir in their weekly broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word. The group will perform two pieces, "Every Time I Feel the Spirit" and "Let Us Go into the House of the Lord." They will then join the Tabernacle Choir in the final selection "Sing Praise to Him," in an arrangement composed by Kempton. 

 

The Collegiate Singers' performance with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir will be preceded by a performance at the BYU-Idaho President's Club Banquet on Saturday, March 15.

 

As one of the premier off-campus performing choirs at BYU-Idaho, Collegiate Singers is comprised of some of the finest vocalists on campus. With more than 50 singers, the group provides audiences an exciting experience with a wide variety of musical styles and periods.

 

The Collegiate Singers generally tour every other year in addition to many on- and off-campus performances. As part of their 2006-2007 season, Collegiate Singers produced a CD of music featuring choir and organ. Additional performance events included Handel's Messiah, Christmas in the Snow, and the biennial BYU-Idaho Sacred Music Series concert and tour.

 

Music and the Spoken Word is a live broadcast featuring the Mormon Tabernacle Choir which airs every Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. Music and the Spoken Word has become the world's longest-running continuous network broadcast and is carried on more than 2,000 radio and television stations and cable systems. It has been broadcast from locations across the country and around the world.

 

Locally, the live broadcast can be seen on BYU Television, available on CableOne channel 13, Dish Network channel 9403, and DirecTV channel 374.

 

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir consists of 360 members from many different backgrounds and professions and range in age from 25 to 60. Five of the Choir's recordings have achieved "gold record" status and two have achieved "platinum record" status. The most popular was the Grammy-Award-winning 1959 release of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" with the Philadelphia Orchestra.
