"We are not bound by tradition, nor are we limited to our own understanding or to the wisdom of men. In short, this is a very unusual university."

BYU-Idaho to hold 22nd Annual
Religious Lecture Series
The Brigham Young University-Idaho Department of Religious Education will present the 22nd Annual Religious Lecture Series on Saturday, February 23. The theme of this year's program is "That They May Know the Covenants of the Lord."
The Religious Lecture Series provides the community with the chance to expand their understanding of certain religious topics as well as an opportunity to be spiritually uplifted.
"The purpose of the lecture series is to provide participants with a deeper witness about the message of the scriptures. This helps them to have a greater desire to study the scriptures more thoroughly and continue to develop their testimony," said Jeff Chapman, a faculty member in the BYU-Idaho Department of Religious Education.
Each year the Lecture Series focuses on one book of scripture mirroring what is being taught at Sunday School in the Gospel Doctrine class. Presentations this year will be grounded in the Book of Mormon. John H. Groberg, president of the Idaho Falls Temple, will be the keynote speaker at this year's Lecture Series. His address entitled "The Temple and the Book of Mormon" will open the event at 9:00 a.m.
Other speakers will not only come from BYU-Idaho faculty, but will include educators from BYU in Provo, BYU-Hawaii, and from the Church Educational System. In the past, the Religious Lecture Series has been attended primarily by the Rexburg and surrounding community, but the coordinators of this year's event are encouraging BYU-Idaho faculty, staff, and students to attend the event as well.
"We have been making a push this year to get students and faculty to attend this year's lectures. We are hoping the faculty will encourage their students to go and also set the example by planning to attend themselves," Chapman said. The Religious Lecture Series will be held in the John Taylor Building from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. No fees or registration are necessary to attend.
An optional lunch will be served from 11:45 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. in the Hyrum Manwaring Student Center at a cost of $6.50. Tickets for the lunch will be available for purchase in the Taylor Building.
Brochures will be available the morning of the Lecture Series outlining the schedule of events and locations where lectures are being presented. For more information, visit www.byui.edu/lectureseries.
