BYU-Idaho to host Campus Passport Day for students and employees

Students and employees at Brigham Young University-Idaho will have an opportunity to apply for or renew passports during Campus Passport Day on Wednesday, February 13 in the Manwaring Center across from the Bookstore from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Representatives from the Rexburg Post Office will be on hand to assist in the process.

Students and employees should note that in preparation of applying for their passport, they will need to bring the following items:

  • Passport Application (included in information packets found at the Manwaring Center Information Desk)
  • Passport Pictures (additional charge of $7; can be taken at the event)
  • Government issued photo ID, such as a driver's license
  • Certified Birth Certificate (Must be obtained from state of birth previous to event. A state vital records list can be obtained at the Manwaring Center Information Desk)
  • U.S. Passport Agency Fees in check or money order payable to Department of State for $67.
  • U.S. Post Office fee in check or money order payable to Postmaster for $30

Application and processing fees are set by the State Department. There will be no additional surcharges for obtaining a passport during this event.

The passport renewal process is similar and requires many of the same documents. One must have a previous passport, two new passport pictures and a renewal form. This form can be printed from the State Department Web site and completed before the event. The cost of a renewed passport is the same as a new passport and both checks and/or money orders will be required.

It is also important to note that new regulations have been issued from the State Department concerning passports. A passport is now required for all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda. On January 1, 2008, the passport requirement was extended to include all land border crossings to or from the above-mentioned destinations.

Those interested in applying for a passport during the event should obtain and complete a passport application prior to the Campus Passport Day event. Passport information and applications can be obtained from the State Department Web site at http://www.travel.state.gov/.
