Forum to focus on BYU-Idaho Learning Model
The Brigham Young University-Idaho Learning Model will be the focus of the first University Forum of 2008 on Thursday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. in the Taylor Chapel. Clark Gilbert and Brian Schmidt, both members of the Student Activities and Peer Instruction staff at BYU-Idaho, will be the featured speakers.
In a discussion titled "Peer-to-Peer Learning at BYU-Idaho," Brother Gilbert and Brother Schmidt will help students gain a better understanding of the new BYU-Idaho Learning Model by outlining its benefits and effects. Questions that will be answered in the discussion will include: How will this affect the classroom setting? What changes should be expected? What will be required of students and faculty?
Brother Schmidt is the director of Student Peer Instruction at BYU-Idaho. He previously directed the university's Leadership and Service Institute and has been an advisor in the service area of the Student Activities Program, where he focused on student development and community service.
Brother Gilbert is the managing director of Student Activities and Peer Instruction. Before joining BYU-Idaho, he was a professor of Entrepreneurial Management at the Harvard Business School, where he researched and taught innovation. He has a background in case method instruction and has taught leadership and life skills courses at BYU-Idaho.
BYU-Idaho Forums are held monthly to broaden the understanding of students. Leading experts of general interest are invited to speak and often take time to give master classes while they are on campus. University Forums are open to the public and are also broadcast on KBYI-FM 100.5.
