Dallas Brass to perform concert at BYU-Idaho

The Dallas Brass, one of America's foremost brass ensembles, will perform Saturday, Jan. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg.

The concert will be free to BYU-Idaho students, although tickets are still required. The cost is $10 for the general public. Tickets will go on sale Jan. 3 and be available online at www.byui.edu/tickets or at the Kimball Ticket Office (call 496-2230).

The Dallas Brass, founded in 1983 by Michael Levine, consists of six performers--one percussionist and five brass players. Their repertoire includes patriotic music, Dixieland, swing, Broadway, Hollywood and classical masterpieces.

"We take music we want to play and arrange it to fit brass instruments," Levine said.

The Dallas Brass originally began playing together in Texas for weddings, receptions and parties. However, Levine said that he realized very quickly that he wanted to do a whole lot more with the group.

The Dallas Brass appears with symphony orchestras nationwide, including the Cincinnati Pops, New York Pops and Philadelphia Pops. The Dallas Brass has performed at Carnegie Hall and the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and for Presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush.

Not only have the Dallas Brass had the opportunity to perform live for audiences but they have also appeared on the CBS Early Show, and their music has been used numerous times on the television show "The Young & The Restless."
