BYU-Idaho to hold fall graduation, Young Women General President to speak

 

More than 1,000 Brigham Young University-Idaho students will receive diplomas at fall commencement exercises to be held Friday, December 14 at 5:00 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium.

 

Sister Susan W. Tanner, general president of the Young Women organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will be the featured speaker at the commencement services.

 

Tickets are required to attend commencement in the Hart Auditorium. Individual college convocations will be held at 7:00 p.m. the same evening at locations across campus and tickets are not required to attend. A complete listing of convocations and other graduation events is available online at www.byui.edu/graduation.

 

A total of 1,079 students will receive diplomas at December commencement. Of those, 441 are males and 638 are females. The university will award 993 bachelor's degrees and 105 associate degrees.

 

About half the graduates, 499, are married, and 497 have served as missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The youngest graduate, Lucy Giblette, 19, will receive a bachelor's degree. The oldest graduate, Laura Bushman, 55, will receive a bachelor's degree.

 

Sister Tanner is a former president and counselor in all of the women's auxiliaries - Relief Society, Young Women and Primary - on both the ward and stake levels. She has also been a curriculum writer for the Primary organization. Prior to her call as Young Women General President she was serving on the Relief Society General Board. She graduated from Brigham Young University in Humanities.
