"We are not bound by tradition, nor are we limited to our own understanding or to the wisdom of men. In short, this is a very unusual university."

BYU-Idaho Department of Music to perform
opera scenes
More than 30 student performers will take part in the Brigham Young University-Idaho Department of Music's upcoming Opera Workshop, presenting abridged versions of three operas packed full of laughs and heartwarming moments.
"Only through opera are audiences able to experience complete theatrical entertainment; by listening to beautiful singing and watching the action unfold, the audience members are able to feel and become a part of the opera-going experience," said Rebecca Wascoe, director of the Opera Workshop.
The three operas represented each carry a message of love. Menotti's The Old Maid and the Thief represents love that is sought, Puccini's La Boheme represents love lost, and Humperdink's Hansel and Gretel represents love found.
"Whether you are seeking love or not, you are sure to find yourself entertained by these performances," Wascoe said.
The scenes will be performed Thursday, November 8 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, November 9 at 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. All performances will be given in the Ensemble Hall of the Eliza R. Snow Building, free of charge. For more information about this and other BYU-Idaho Department of Music events, visit www.byui.edu/music/events.htm.
