Upcoming Spirit Week to celebrate the Spirit of Ricks at BYU-Idaho

As it does every semester, Brigham Young University-Idaho is busy preparing for the Fall Semester 2007 Spirit Week. This year, however, Student Spirit Events has planned and prepared a Spirit Week that will hopefully change the way students view the Spirit of Ricks and encourage them to become a part of the legacy of BYU-Idaho.

Taking a cue from President Kim B. Clark's "Developing Disciple-Leaders" model, Student Spirit Events has developed a fresh look at Spirit Week, enhancing the activities to allow students to more fully understand and feel the Spirit of Ricks.

In referring to the changes to Spirit Week, Lauren Ganske, Spirit Events Assistant said, "It's a big change, but we've realized students get more out of Spirit Week through their own personal involvement and reflection. We hope students will feel that change and their own personal connection to the university."

In order to facilitate that personal connection, Student Spirit Events has invited and encouraged the involvement of campus employees and student organizations along with the students in order to create a bond between participants. This allows students, employees and alumni to connect to, reflect upon and celebrate the Spirit of Ricks at BYU-Idaho during the week-long celebration.

The Fall Semester 2007 Spirit Week will run from October 9-13 and features the Tuesday Devotional as the kick-off to Spirit Week, followed that evening with the Spirit Cup Challenge, Torch Lighting Ceremony and Catch the Spirit fireworks display. Wednesday features the Involvement Fair, Get Involved Seminar and Spirit Rally. Thursday focuses on the Spirit Trek beginning at the Taylor Chapel and ending by the Rexburg Temple. The weekend concludes with the Spirit Week Service Project and the Best of Guitars Unplugged.
