Del Parkinson and Kevin Call concert moved one day earlier

 

Pianist Del Parkinson of Boise and violist Kevin Call of Rexburg will perform a free concert Thursday, September 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall in the Snow Center for the Performing Arts at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg.

 

Originally scheduled for September 21, the concert has been moved one day earlier. No tickets are required.

 

Parkinson will perform the Chopin Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor and the Chopin Fantasie in F minor. Together they will perform both the Violin and Viola Sonatas of composer and emeritus Salt Lake Tabernacle organist Robert Cundick. Mr. Cundick, who is in the process of composing the next sacred music oratorio for BYU-Idaho, will be in attendance at the performance.

 

Del Parkinson began studying piano at age five in his hometown of Blackfoot. He holds a doctor of music degree from Indiana University and a postgraduate diploma from the Juilliard School.

 

He was the recipient of a Fulbright-Hays grant for graduate study in London. He was coordinator of piano instruction at BYU-Idaho, where he taught for eight years, and is now professor of piano at Boise State University, where he joined the faculty in 1985.

 

Kevin Call is a member of the BYU-Idaho music faculty and associate dean of the College of Performing and Visual Arts. Prior to joining the school's faculty in 1984, he completed a doctorate in viola performance at the University of Michigan studying with Donald McInnes.

 

He additionally holds a master's degree in viola performance and a bachelor's degree in music education from BYU in Provo where he studied with William Primrose and David Dalton.
