BYU-Idaho senior named to student advisory board for educational publishing company

Troy Salmon, a senior at Brigham Young University-Idaho, has been selected as a member of the new Student Advisory Board for Pearson Education, the world's largest education publisher.

According to Pearson Education, its Student Advisory Board is designed to bring college student representatives together with company leaders to share perspectives and create dialogue on higher education and the issues facing college students.

Salmon is one of only twelve members selected nationwide to serve a one-year term on this board. As a part of the marketing committee for the board, Salmon's goal is to find students' perspectives about their textbooks and other educational tools.

"Based on our research, we will offer suggestions to Pearson Education's publishing companies about their products and perhaps suggest other tools that will more effectively enrich the education of students," Salmon said.

Salmon, a communication major from Centerville, Utah, was recommended by faculty members from the BYU-Idaho College of Business and Communication for this position. Salmon chose this opportunity because of his interest in the publishing world and the opportunity to meet outstanding students from across the country.

"We believe an advisory board of college students will be an important catalyst in providing Pearson with a fresh, informed perspective about our educational content, technology, services and future learning models," said Will Ethridge, president and CEO of Pearson Higher Education, International and Professional Publishing.

Along with his position on the Pearson Student Advisory Board, Salmon is the creator and owner of The Voice, a monthly student newspaper company. Salmon believes students should take every opportunity to enhance their college experience.

"It's easy to do everything minimal your entire life," said Salmon. "However, there are so many opportunities out there to do more and enhance your interests to become more than just a career. Choosing to maximize your potential is a lifestyle."
