Acoustic band Bearfoot to perform concert at BYU-Idaho

Bearfoot, an emerging Alaska-based quintet playing original material on acoustic instruments, will perform Thursday, July 5, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg.

Tickets for the concert can be purchased from the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office by calling 496-2230 or online at www.byui.edu/tickets. Tickets are $8 for the general public and $4 for BYU-Idaho students.

Bearfoot is unique blend of Americana is a potpourri of jazz, blues, bluegrass and old-time Appalachian music. They feature singing, tight vocal harmonies, creative arrangements and instrumental solos that mix for an energetic and engaging performance. The five men and women of Bearfoot have toured nationally and internationally and their appeal connects with audience members young and old.

In their seven-year career they have gone from a teenage band of music camp counselors to seasoned professionals with three recordings to their credit, "Only Time Knows" (2001), "Back Home" (2003) produced by Grammy Award winner Todd Phillips, and "Follow Me" (to be released this year), produced by Grammy Award winner Gene Libbea.

Bearfoot won the band competition at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Colorado in 2001, an honor they share with past recipients Nickel Creek (1995) and the Dixie Chicks (1991).
