BYU-Idaho Department of Music to present Summer Choirfest

The Brigham Young University-Idaho Department of Music will present its Summer Choirfest on Friday, June 8 in the Barrus Concert Hall. For the first time in a Summer Semester, the Choirfest will feature four choirs: Collegiate Singers, Mens' Choir, Womens' Choir, and the Womens' Glee.

"The choirs are still somewhat smaller than their fall and winter counterparts, but that is quickly changing," said Randall Kempton, a member of the BYU-Idaho Music Department faculty and director of the Mens' Choir. "The quality of the singers-both in sound and spirit-is impressive."

The concert will feature music of many styles and moods: sacred hymns, choral standards, musical spoofs, Renaissance madrigals and African spirituals. "There should be something for everyone to enjoy, and it gives concertgoers an opportunity to sample the sound of all the choirs on campus in one evening," Kempton said.

Concert times are 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $6 for the general public and $3 for BYU-Idaho students, and are available at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office by calling 496-2300 or visiting www.byui.edu/tickets. Collegiate Singers is directed by Kevin Brower, Women's Choir by Eda Ashby, and Women's Glee by Andrew Davitt. This event is FA 100 approved.
