"We are not bound by tradition, nor are we limited to our own understanding or to the wisdom of men. In short, this is a very unusual university."

British pianist Paul Roberts to return to
BYU-Idaho
British pianist and author Paul Roberts will return to Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg as part of his 2006 U.S. recital and book tour.
Roberts will perform as part of the Center Stage Performing Arts Series Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall. The concert will feature music by Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, Ravel, Ireland and Debussy.
The cost is $10 for general public and $5 for BYU-Idaho students. Tickets can be purchased from the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office in the Manwaring Center, over the phone at 496-2230 or via the Internet at www.byui.edu/tickets.
Roberts is a fellow of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, visiting professor at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, and director of music at Castelfranc piano program in southern France.
In addition to his extensive playing and lecturing schedule that takes him across the United States, Great Britain and Western Europe, Amadeus Press of New York has just released a Paul Roberts DVD entitled "Mists, Fairies and Fireworks: Debussy's Preludes for Piano," featuring Roberts as part of their new "Steinway Presents" DVD series.
Roberts parallel career as a writer has led to London's Phaidon Press' 2006 release of his biography of Debussy. He is also author of a celebrated book on Debussy, "Images: The Piano Music of Claude Debussy" (Amadeus Press), which is a combined study of music, poetry and painting.
At present he is working on a companion volume "Reflections: The Piano Music of Maurice Ravel," which will give further insight into the cultural and artistic milieu of France at the beginning of the twentieth century.
As a leading authority on Debussy, Roberts is currently recording the complete piano music. The first CD in the series received four-star recommendation from Classic CD magazine, which proclaimed it as "probably the most desirable modern recording of the Preludes currently available in the UK," while Erato Disques said his performances were "comparable to the very greatest." The second disc, "Images I and Preludes II," earned equal praise.
