Church Human Resources director speaks at
BYU-Idaho devotional
Ralph Christensen, managing director of human resources for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, spoke to Brigham Young University-Idaho students about fulfilling the measure of our creation in a devotional address given Tuesday, October 3.
"The measure of our creation is to achieve exaltation and eternal life...to be crowned with glory, even with the presence of God the Father," Christensen said. "Brothers and sisters, the measure of our creation is to live again with God and to realize the invitation to become like Him."
Christensen explained that one way in which we fulfill the measure of our creation is by understanding and accepting the doctrines of who we are and what we can become. He spoke of all people being celestial material and to not accept the lie that they are not. Christensen challenged the audience to pray to their Heavenly Father to have Him confirm that they truly are His son or daughter.
He next taught, "We fulfill the measure of our creation as we understand and accept the doctrines surrounding our roles as worthy men and worthy women."
Christensen spoke of the roles of mothers in raising their children in righteousness, and fathers blessing their families with the priesthood. "When a worthy man and a worthy woman each understand and make commitments to fulfill their godly assigned roles...and then do so in the spirit of love and humility they take a giant step toward fulfilling the measure of their creation," he said.
"Thirdly, we fulfill the measure of our creation when we use our gift of agency as an expression of obedience," Christensen said. "Remember, we all followed the leadership of Jesus himself who valiantly supported Father's plan that we would have choice...a choice that could not and should not be taken away."
Christensen bore his witness of the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. "I testify that each and every one of us has the ability to realize the fullness of our creation," he said. "May we come to know who we truly are. May we understand and live our God given roles as men and women and may we see obedience and repentance as two of God's greatest gifts. May we pray for and receive a conviction of these principles."
Next week's devotional speaker will be Dennis E. Simmons, the president of the Logan Utah Temple. Devotionals are held every Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium with additional seating in the Taylor Chapel and Kirkham Auditorium. Devotionals are broadcast on KBYI-FM 100.5 at 2 p.m. and rebroadcast Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m.
