As part of Communication Day at Brigham Young University-Idaho, Dr. Stephen R. Covey will speak at a university forum on Thursday, September 28 at 2:00 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium.  A question and answer session will follow.

Dr. Covey is the author of several acclaimed books, including the international bestseller The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. He is the co-founder and vice chairman of FranklinCovey, a global professional services firm with offices in 123 countries.  BYU-Idaho leaders and the Communication Department asked Dr. Covey to speak because of his expertise.

"His work and study of communication is applicable to what we teach in the classroom," said Ron Bennett, chair of the BYU-Idaho Communication Department.  "He is a great example of effective communication and business strategy.  We felt he would appeal to communication students and students of all disciplines."

Overflow seating will be available in the Taylor Chapel, Hinckley Chapel, and Kirkham Auditorium.  The forum will also be broadcast on KBYI-FM 100.5. The question and answer session will be from 3-3:30 p.m. in the Hart Auditorium only.  Professional business dress is encouraged.

"We encourage students and employees from all areas to participate and listen," Bennett said.  "We have a particularly outstanding group of speakers.  It will be well worth anyone's time to come and participate."

Other Communication Day speakers include Bill Barnes, director of government relations for Intermountain Healthcare; Steve Glade, president of Glade Group Advertising; Karole Honas, anchor and reporter for KIFI-TV Channel 8; John Hughes, editor and chief operating officer for the Deseret Morning News; and Meagan Perkins, senior account executive for Coltrin & Associates.

Communication Day activities also include a panel discussion at 8:00 a.m. in the Taylor Chapel and workshops taught in Taylor 120, 160, 170 and 180 from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
