"We are not bound by tradition, nor are we limited to our own understanding or to the wisdom of men. In short, this is a very unusual university."
-President Kim B. Clark
Free patriotic organ recital
to be featured at BYU-Idaho
Rebecca Parkinson, adjunct organ instructor at Brigham Young University-Idaho, will present a free patriotic organ recital Thursday, July 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall of the Eliza R. Snow Center for the Performing Arts.
The recital will feature many familiar patriotic tunes and folk songs played on the Ruffatti organ, such as John Newton's "Amazing Grace" and Joseph Brackett's "Simple Gifts." All of the pieces that she will perform were written by American composers.
As a highlight in the performance, Parkinson will perform her own arrangement of Katherine Lee Bates' "America the Beautiful."
Parkinson attended Ricks College and later studied at Utah State University where she received her bachelor's degree. Her love for the organ has grown during her more than 30 years of experience. For the past 19 years Parkinson has been instructing BYU-Idaho students on the organ.
