    Elder Monte J. Brough to speak at
    BYU–Idaho fall graduation

    Elder Monte J. Brough of the Presidency of the Seventy and Church Education System Administrator Roger Christensen will be the featured speakers during fall graduation at Brigham Young University-Idaho on Friday, Dec. 16.

    With commencement beginning at 7:30 p.m., this ceremony is also the first at BYU–Idaho to take place at night.

    Elder Brough was called to the Presidency of the Seventy on August 15, 1993. Currently, he serves as Executive Director of the Family History Department and President of the Genealogical Society of Utah. His assignments as a General Authority have included counselor in the Young Men’s General Presidency and President of the Asia Area of the Church. Elder Brough also served as President of the Minnesota Minneapolis Mission prior to becoming a General Authority.

    Elder Brough graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in mathematics/education and obtained a Ph.D. from the University of Utah in business administration. He founded a multinational computer services company, which he retired from before serving as a mission president. At the time of his call to the Seventy, he was teaching a business strategy course at Brigham Young University.

    In addition to administrative responsibilities in Church Education, Roger Christensen is secretary to the Board of Education and the Board of Trustees for Brigham Young University, BYU-Hawaii, BYU-Idaho and LDS Business College. Brother Christensen also spent nine years in the Church Budget Office. He holds a degree in accounting from BYU.

    Brother Christensen’s church service includes branch and stake presidencies, primary pianist, and family history consultant.

    The guest speakers will make remarks at both the banquet and commencement. BYU–Idaho president Kim B. Clark will also address graduates.

    The graduation banquet will be at 5 p.m. in the MC West Ballroom, sponsored by the Alumni Association. Graduates, their families and friends are welcome. Guest tickets are unlimited and are $12 per person in advance or $14 at the door.

    Commencement seating in the Hart Auditorium will begin at 6:30 p.m. Family and friends of graduates are asked to be in their seats by 7:15. The processional will begin at 7:15 p.m., followed by commencement exercises. Overflow seating is available in the Taylor Building chapel.

    A total of 1033 graduates will receive degrees this fall. Of these, 758 are bachelor degrees, showing a 35 percent increase from last year. There are 283 associate degrees, a decrease from last year’s 355.
