Brigham Young University-Idaho’s new
Testing Center will open much sooner than expected. The new
facility, located in the recently renovated Clarke Building,
will open Saturday, December 10 at 11 a.m. The McKay
Library Testing center will close Friday, December 9.
The new Testing Center is located on the north end of the second
floor of the Clarke Building. Students are to access the
facility by way of the outside stairway on the north side of the
building. Handicap access is available inside the building.
Students should note a couple of changes with the relocation of
the center. The entry area in the new Testing Center will only
be used for waiting in line to receive a test. Students will not
be allowed to sit and study, as is a common practice in the
library center. Students are encouraged to bring only the items
they need to take the test, as they will not be able to leave
things in the entry area of the testing center. If students have
backpacks, they must be able to fit them under the desks.
The new Testing Center offers benefits to students which were
not possible in the old location. Rooms for students with
special testing needs are available for test-taking and
studying. These rooms offer computers with programs that may be
helpful in the studying and test-taking process. Students must
make appointments in advance to use these areas. Other
improvements include the ability of students to check out more
than one test at a time and a web camera linked to the school
Web site, which will be placed in the entry way so students can
know how long the Testing Center line is.
Even though there will be some adjustments to make due to
change, John Dexter, Testing Center Director, feels that this
move will be an overwhelmingly positive one for the students.
“This is one of those times when we aren’t going to reach
perfection right away,” he said, “but we are always open to
suggestions on how to make things better for the students.” |
