BYU-Idaho Wind Ensemble to perform “Celebrations!” December 6

    REXBURG, Idaho –
    Writer: Adam Alder

The Brigham Young University-Idaho Wind Ensemble will perform their second concert of the fall semester on Tuesday, December 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium.

The concert, entitled “Celebrations!”, will include a mix of musical selections that celebrate life and freedom, as well as the wonders of Christmas. This December marks the 50th Anniversary of Rosa Park’s great act of personal courage which sparked the Civil Right movement of the 1950’s. Ms. Parks passed away on October 24, 2005 at the age of 92. In honor of Rosa Parks the Wind Ensemble will perform “A Movement for Rosa” by Mark Camphouse.

Other features of the concert will include: an arrangement of “Amazing Grace”, one of the most beloved American spirituals celebrating the spiritual rebirth made available to all mankind through Jesus Christ; Claude Smith’s “Symphonic Variations on ‘In Dulci Jubilo’”; a transcription of Bach’s great organ work “Fantasia in G Major”; and a few lighter Christmas selections.

Diane Soelberg, BYU-Idaho Music Department faculty member, encourages all to “come enjoy an evening of great music for the holiday season!”

Tickets for the event cost $1 for students and $2 for non-students.
