Brigham Young University-Idaho dance
students will present a series of Extravadance Concerts. These
events will be held on Thursday, November 17 at 7:30 p.m.,
Friday, November 18 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 19 at 5
p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium.
The Extravadance Concerts will consist of three dance groups:
the World Dance Company, the Ballroom Dance Company and the
Contemporary Dance Company. Each group features a variety of
dance styles. The World Dance Company will perform dances from
cultures such as Ireland, South Africa and India. The Ballroom
Dance Company will present dance types including Lindy Hop,
Viennese Waltz and Latin. The Contemporary Dance Company will
feature selections of modern, contemporary ballet, lyrical jazz
and inspirational movement.
“Most of the students rehearse anywhere from eight to ten hours
a week to prepare for Extravadance. Their skills are challenged
as they are required to learn several of the dance styles in
their area of interest,” Jennifer O’Farrell, BYU-Idaho Dance
Department Chair said. “The students appreciate the time they
have to work hard, interact with one another and grow in the
experience together.”
The Extravadance Concerts are the first of three dance concerts
that will prepare students for the CES Performance Tour. In
conjunction with this tour, the group will be traveling to Peru
and Ecuador this coming May to perform.
“The dancers enjoy taking these performance opportunities to
share their talents, as well as their joy for the gospel,”
O’Farrell said. “They also hope that through their efforts the
audience will be able to enjoy dance as an art form, but even
more importantly, enjoy a cultural event that brings students,
friends, family and community together.”
Prior to the Extravadance concerts, there will be a Bluegrass
Band pre-show presented each night at 7 p.m. Tickets for
Extravadance cost $6 for non-students and $1 for students. This
is an FA 100 dance event. |
