BYU-Idaho Chamber String students to present Chamber Music Festival
    November 19

Brigham Young University-Idaho Chamber String students will present a Chamber Music Festival on Saturday, November 19 at 8:30 p.m. in the Snow Recital Hall.

This event comes after much preparation by the Chamber String students including receiving personal instruction from the Cavani String Quartet, a professional string quartet who is performing at BYU-Idaho on November 16 and 17. Chamber String students will have opportunities to interact with the quartet in classes, critique sessions and a luncheon while the group stays in Rexburg.

“Each year the residency proves to be one of the most enriching experiences for development of individual musicianship, which is then reflected in their skills when we come back together as an orchestra,” said Ted Ashton, BYU-Idaho Music Department faculty member.

The Chamber Music Festival program will feature works from many well known composers, including Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, Dvorak, Brahms, Elgar and Ravel. The Chamber Strings group is a part of the Chamber Orchestra, but will be performing individually for this event.

“Chamber music is a very intimate from of music making,” Ashton continued. “In orchestra there are a number of people playing the same part - strength in numbers so to speak. In chamber music it is one person on a part and you must be thoroughly prepared in order to make the group work.”

Admission to the Chamber Music Festival is free to the public.
