The Brigham Young University-Idaho Department of Music will present an Opera Workshop Scenes concert on Saturday, November 12 at 3 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall. The concert will feature the music of Puccini’s opera “La Boheme.”

This opera, which is rich in melody and harmony, is the story of poor students living in Paris in 1830. It is about two young couples in love. One is the young poet Rodolfo, who is in love with the seamstress Mimi. The other is the painter Marcello, who loves the beautiful Musetta. The story intensifies when Mimi is stricken with tuberculosis, and it is feared she may die. Rodolfo must prepare himself for the loss of the one thing he held most precious in life: his true love.

“Opera Workshop provides BYU-Idaho singers with the opportunity to develop solo vocal talent,” David D. Peck, BYU-Idaho faculty member and director of the Opera Workshop said. “The workshop also features talented student accompanists. Student singers are occasionally supplemented by performance contributions from members of the BYU-Idaho voice faculty.”

Admission to the Opera Workshop Scenes is free to the public. Classroom dress is acceptable for those attending.
