The Young Ambassadors from Brigham Young University in Provo,
Utah, will perform some of Broadway’s greatest hits in their
show Circle of Life at BYU-Idaho in Rexburg.
The performance will be held Friday, Nov. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in
the Hart Auditorium. Tickets are $8 for the general public and
$2 for BYU-Idaho students. They may be purchased at the
BYU-Idaho Ticket Office, by calling 496-2230 or online at
www.byui.edu/tickets.
Circle of Life is a musical revue celebrating musical theater of
the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. Show numbers include
such favorites as “Lida Rose” from The Music Man and “Tradition”
from Fiddler on the Roof. The show also features a medley from
Footloose and numbers from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,
Thoroughly Modern Millie, and How to Succeed in Business.
The show features a four-member band and a performing cast of 30
singers/dancers. The group is directed by an excellent
production team and, in addition, is supported by nine student
technicians who give backstage support and control lighting and
sound.
Over the past 34 years the Young Ambassadors, representing BYU’s
School of Music, have traveled to more than 56 countries. With a
message calling for friendship and understanding, and with music
as their medium, the Young Ambassadors sing and dance to
communicate the ever-present need for values in today’s world.
The group took their presentation of Circle of Life to China and
Korea in April and May 2005, ending a nine-year absence from
China and a 30-year absence from South Korea.
Ron Simpson, music director for the group, described this year’s
tour to China as a “triumphant return.” The group members truly
were ambassadors as they gave concerts for the masses, met with
prominent government figures, and served in local schools and
orphanages. It was an exciting and rewarding trip for all. |
