Pamela J. Atkinson, community advocate and humanitarian, will address Brigham Young University-Idaho students on social responsibility and community involvement at a University Forum on Thursday, October 20 at 2 p.m. in the Taylor Chapel.

Ms. Atkinson has served in many capacities including Vice-President for Mission Services at Intermountain Health Care and on the Board of Regents of Higher Education in Utah. She was a founding board member and past chair of Salt Lake City’s Fourth Street Clinic, which provides comprehensive health care to homeless families and individuals. This complex was named the Pamela J. Atkinson Homeless Services Center on September 30, 2003. Recently, Ms. Atkinson has helped - under the direction of Utah Governor Jon Huntsman Jr. - find and provide shelter, food and clothing for refugees displaced to Utah by Hurricane Katrina. She is a tireless advocate for low income people, homeless populations and at-risk children and is admired and appreciated for her compassion, respect of all and her willingness to take action, often using her own personal resources to help others. She is also a recipient of the Outstanding Service Award from the Volunteers of America.

Ms. Atkinson will conduct a question and answer session from 3 - 3:50 p.m. The Forum will be broadcast live on KBYI 100.5 FM.

This lecture is part of the annual Brady Howell Lecture Series, honoring the Ricks College alumnus who died in the September 11, 2001 attack on the Pentagon. The series was established by Howell’s widow, Liz, and by other members of his family.
