New lecture series to begin at BYU-Idaho

    REXBURG, Idaho-

The challenge of blending scholarship and theology will be the focus of a new lecture series getting underway this fall at Brigham Young University-Idaho.

The “Mind & Spirit” lecture series will commence with an address by BYU-Idaho physics instructor Brian Tonks entitled “How My Scholarship Prepares My Mind to Receive Eternal Truths.”  The lecture will be given Thursday, October 13, at 5:00 p.m. in the Taylor Chapel.

“Mind & Spirit” is sponsored by the BYU-Idaho faculty journal Perspective: Expressing Mind & Spirit.  The new semi-annual lecture series developed out of a question regularly addressed in the Perspective journal: how does theology inform the scholarship of teachers in the Church Educational System?

Drawing upon the experiences of scholars in various academic fields, Perspective editors will use the “Mind & Spirit” series to address the opposite question – how does scholarship enable theology – by exploring theological views, illustrated with examples from each speaker’s scholarship.

More information about the Perspective journal is available online at www.byui.edu/perspective.
