BYU-Idaho faculty members to perform with FOUR in jazz combo

    REXBURG, Idaho-
    Writer: Adam Alder

The Brigham Young University-Idaho Music Department faculty will combine with the saxophone quartet FOUR to present a jazz concert on Friday, September 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Snow Drama Theatre.

FOUR is a group of friends who enjoy playing saxophones to a jazz music theme, despite the instrument’s classical roots. Some of their compositions, such as With Friends Like These, are difficult while others, like Linus and Lucy, are fun to play and hear. While the group members have assembled significant resumes, it is their love of the music that appeals to audiences the most.

The group’s schedule this year includes performances at the Idaho Falls Symphony, Jazz Vespers in Salt Lake City, CSI Jazz Workshop Series, Saxophone Congress in Slovenia, and possibly an event in northern Italy and Austria. The completion of a new CD is also coming soon. It will contain the group’s original compositions and arrangements. Members of the group include BYU-Idaho music professor Dr. Mark Watkins at soprano and alto, Brent Jensen at alto, Sandon Mayhew at tenor and Jon Gudmundson at baritone.

Some members of the BYU-Idaho Music Department faculty will provide piano, bass and drums to go along with FOUR’s performance.

Tickets are $2 for the public and $1 for students. High school music groups can receive free tickets for the show. For more information, please contact Dr. Mark Watkins at 496-1261.
