BYU-Idaho talent showcase to open new year

BYU-Idaho students will display their talents at a Welcome Back Showcase and Dance on Saturday, Jan. 11, in the Hart Auditorium.

The showcase will start at 7:30 p.m. and the cost is $3 for BYU-Idaho students and $5 for general public. A dance will follow at about 9 p.m. For tickets, contact the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office at 496-2230 when it reopens Jan. 7. Tickets will also be available at the door.

Arlen Wilcock, who has planned many showcases in past years, is putting together the night of talent that is sponsored by the Activities Program.

“This is designed to be a sampler of some of the outstanding performing groups and student talent,” Wilcock says. “It will also feature our new lighting, audio and video facilities in the Hart, including projection of live images onto large screens on each side of stage.”

He says the large campus groups include Vocal Union, From the Heart, Contemporary Dance Theatre and Ballroom Dance Company. Also performing will be a sampler of smaller groups, including the six-man a cappella group Pop Rocks, a barbershop quartet called Optimists Prime, and other solos and dancers.

Some participants performed previously during the fall semester at such productions as Guitars Unplugged, A Cappella Jam, Battle of the Dance and the All American Talent Show.
