REXBURG, Idaho—Two retired Ricks College music
faculty from Rexburg will lead the BYU-Idaho homecoming parade Saturday.
Clyde
Luke and Richard Robison, who worked together in the music department for
many years, will head up the parade and participate in the alumni banquet
and choir concert Saturday evening.
Luke
said his initial reaction to the invitation was shock, but he looks forward
to participating in the festivities. “I think this opportunity will provide
a reconnection with the campus. It came at a particularly good time,” he
said.
Robison
added, “I go up to the campus to swim and work out. We went to the
faculty-staff banquet and renewed many acquaintances there. We attend the
programs and the concerts, whatever we can get to, and we appreciate those
connections and opportunities.”
While
many of the things in the music department have remained constant, Luke
said that the changes he sees are growth.
“As
far as I can see, the program continues to get increasingly better,” he
said.
Luke,
who taught at Ricks College from 1971-2000, worked as the coordinator of
choral activities. Additionally, he directed the A Cappella Choir, the
Collegiate Singers, Men’s Choir, Women’s Glee and College Choir and served
as an adviser to the New Freedom Singers. He is a native of the Burley
area.
Robison, who taught at Ricks
College from 1961-1999, conducted the College and A Cappella Choirs and
taught private voice, trumpet and other music classes. He has held leading
roles in BYU opera and oratorio productions, in Ricks College opera
productions and has presented three full doctoral recitals. He soloed with
the Utah Symphony and sang with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir for 11 years,
where he was a baritone soloist. He and his wife recently returned from a
church mission in Nauvoo, Ill.
