“Faith in the Future” is the focus of BYU-Idaho’s Homecoming activities taking place Sept. 19-21. Tickets for this year’s homecoming festivities may be purchased by calling the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office at (208) 496-2230, toll free at (800) 717-4257 or on the Web at http://www.byui.edu/tickets.

As this is the second homecoming at BYU-Idaho and many changes have been made to the school, “we want our alumni to know that the Spirit of Ricks is alive and well,” says Steve Davis, director of alumni relations.

Thursday, Sept. 19, will kick off the week’s activities with a homecoming forum at 2 p.m. in the Taylor Chapel. Rear Admiral Richard B. Porterfield, the director of U.S. Naval Intelligence, will speak on “Intelligence in the Twenty-first Century.”

The annual Homecoming Queen Pageant will take place that night at 7:30 p.m. in the Kirkham Auditorium. Free tickets are required for admission to the pageant. At 9:30 p.m. the torch lighting and torch light parade will begin at Viking Stadium.

Festivities on Friday, Sept. 20, consist of workshops and campus tours particularly designed for alumni and community friends. A Ruffatti organ demonstration will begin at 2 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall by Darwin Wolford, and a choral workshop will follow by Kevin Brower at 3 p.m. in the same location. At 4 p.m. retired faculty member Keith Sellers will speak in the Taylor Chapel, and at 5 p.m. campus tours for alumni will begin in the Kimball main lobby.

At 7:30 p.m. a singing group of Beatles impersonators called 1964-The Tribute will hold a concert followed by free fireworks at 9:30 p.m. at Viking Stadium. The tickets for the show cost $8. A 5-K run for students and alumni will take place that night at 10 p.m.

Saturday’s activities start early with an emeritus breakfast and tribute to the class of 1952 starting at 7 a.m. in the MC West Ballroom. Tickets cost $6. Also being held on Saturday is the annual homecoming parade at 10 a.m. The Rexburg Harvest Festival’s free lunch will begin at 11 a.m. at Viking Stadium and feature a potato bar by the Chamber of Commerce.

The afternoon’s activities will begin with the BYU-Idaho homecoming games and festival at 1 p.m., also at Viking Stadium. Davis expects this festival to draw quite a crowd, considering how many students will be involved in the relay. More information on the festival is available through the school’s Website. The reunion banquet will begin at 5 p.m. in the MC West Ballroom. This reunion will spotlight the classes of 1942-43, 1952-53, 1962-63, 1972-73, 1983-83, 1992-93, the graduating class of 1952, all members of A Cappella Choir, Collegiate Singers and Concert Chorale. Tickets are available for $13. An alumni concert featuring concert singers will be held in the Barrus Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. Saturday night. Free tickets are required for admission.

To conclude the week, Homecoming dances will be held at 8:30 p.m. The Techtones, an 18-person band with a big band sound will play live music in the Manwaring West Ballroom. The Manwaring East Ballroom will feature country music, and the Hinckley Cultural Hall will play Top 40 music. The Taylor Building will be set aside as a “gathering place for alumni,” says Doug Smith, social activities director. The cost per couple in advance is $10, and $13 at the door. Price includes dance pictures.
