REXBURG, ID – Claiming to be the No. 1 Beatles
group in the world, 1964–The Tribute will perform Friday, Sept. 20,
at 7:30 p.m. as part of
BYU-Idaho’s homecoming celebration.
The
outdoor concert will feature seating in Viking Stadium and dancing on the
grass, says Don Sparhawk, coordinator of the college’s Center Stage
Entertainment Series.
With
a recent surge in interest in the Beatles, 1964 is all the rage as it
recreates the early Beatles music of the 1960s – the haircuts, the
boots, the suits, the guitars and the music of John Lennon, Paul McCartney,
Ringo Starr and George Harrison.
Tickets
for the Center Stage Entertainment Series event are on sale for the concert
at the BYU-Idaho Ticket Office. Cost is $8 for the general public and $1
for BYU-Idaho students. For more information, call 496-2230 or go online at
www.byui.edu/tickets.
Hailed
by critics and fans alike as the most authentic Beatles tribute in the
world, 1964 has been featured on such nationally televised programs as
Entertainment Tonight, PM
Magazine, CNN, the USA Network and the Nashville Network.
During
its 17 years of entertaining, the group has toured throughout the world
performing at major concert venues, as well as fairs, festivals, colleges,
corporate events and conventions. They currently perform between 150 and
200 shows a years.
They
were voted “Best Major Concert Act” and “Best
Contemporary Act” by the readers of Campus Activities Today Magazine.
They were also voted “Contemporary Music Artists of the Year”
by the National Association for Campus Activities, and “Campus
Entertainers of the Year” by the Canadian Association for Campus
Activities.
They
have appeared on scores of television and radio programs, including
Entertainment Tonight, PM Magazine, CNN, The USA Network and the Nashville
Network.
Alistair
Taylor, former president of Apple Records for The Beatles, astounded by a
1964 performance stated, “The resemblance was uncanny, it sent
shivers down my spine. It was just like the boys. Never have I seen another
group go to such detail, . . . born again Beatles!”
The
group spent years researching the Fab Four. From the Beatle boots, the
vintage outfits, and the Vox amplifiers, . . . to the mannerisms, the
spoken voice, and the unmistakable harmonies, they have captured and
recreated a live Beatles concert to perfection both musically and visually.
