Harp ensemble to feature

students, guest artists

Nine students under the direction of Shari Pack of the BYU-Idaho music department will perform as a harp ensemble Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Barrus Concert Hall. The concert is free and no tickets are required.

Michelle Andrus, Sabrina Cromwell, Benjamin Edwards, Jacqueline Fowers, Melody Howe, Joan Morgan, Melissa Sego, Heather Stong and Becki Tew will perform on concert pedal harps and lever harps. Additionally, Ricks alumna Jana Rae Hemingway and Idaho Falls symphony harpist Leslie Mielke of Firth will perform as guest artists.

The concert will feature folk melodies from France, Sweden, Norway and the United States. Among the selected pieces are “Tis a Gift To Be Simple,” a rag called “Back to Life,” Pachabel’s “Canon in D” and “American Sings,” a medley of patriotic songs.

Melinda Edwards, a student from Woodland, Wash., will play the flute with Hemingway for “Reed at the Beach,” an original piece composed by Timothy Francis, a student from Rexburg.

The ensemble meets weekly as a class. The group most recently performed at the luncheon preceding the Gordon B. Hinckley Building dedication.  # # #
